Is Oman Safe or Dangerous?

When some of us hear about the Middle East (or the Arabian Peninsula) it’s usually on news and it’s very rarely positive… We’ve associated hijabs, burkas, Islam, and other middle eastern visuals with negative things. When almost always, that’s not the case.

Just a stone’s throw away from Saudi Arabia and Yemen, many people have no idea where this country is or what it is like.

Welcome to Oman.

Oman is one of the Middle East’s safest countries despite its volatile location.

It’s arguably one of the safest countries in the world. It’s a conservative, Islamic Country that has a history of social and religious tolerance that dates back to the 4th century and crimes rarely happen. There are strict laws in place preventing drugs, obscene behavior, and crime from entering the country.

Oman Tourism is booming, and here’s why you should visit:

From Ocean to Desert this country has it all. Known as the Pearl of the Middle East, there are more things to do in Oman than you can count.

The Desert

Like…. visiting the Desert!

Wahiba Sands is known for its incredible sand dunes and rigals Namibia for the tallest dune the world. With an annual precipitation of less than 4 inches, more than 80% of the entire country of Oman is desert, so the real danger isn’t the crime, it’s the heat!

The Wadis

It’s landscapes are varied, and it’s known for its beautiful wadis (or river valleys that are so beautiful they almost seem unreal). Locals visit the wadis for a short weekend getaway, and travelers come from all across the globe just to get a glimpse and take a hike through the beautiful canyons.

Ancient Ruins

It’s architecture is ancient. You won’t find any skyscrapers here. Instead, you’ll walk through old towns, historic castles, beautiful palaces, and spot over 500 ancient mosques.

It’s no surprise that Oman is full of historical ruins as they have seen centuries of change, migration, and Influence from the Persian, British, and Portuguese People. The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, and Nizwa Fort are just a few of the architectural treasures you will find in Oman, so do not miss a stop here.

The Omani People

Oman is one of the most welcoming countries. The Omani People treat visitors like family and everyone will greet you with a smile, and probably some tea…

It’s also a very accessible country. There are plenty of flights to Oman, you get a visa upon arrival, and the capital city of Muscat is only a 1 hour from Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates. It’s a wealthy country (thanks to the Oil Tankers), and thus a perfect vacation spot, with luxury hotels, swimming pools, delicious oman food, and lots of activities. And just to remind you it’s safe with very little crime rate, in fact it has significantly less crime than my country the United States.

Just watch out for the Sun.
