A Culinary Adventure

If you haven’t heard, Andrew and I are on a quest to cook from every country in the world.  As we celebrate the completion of our 75th country in our culinary expedition and reflect on the past month of cooking, I thought I would share a few of our favorites with you…

Homemade Mozzarella – Recipe here.  Delicious mozzarella originates in Naples, Italy where Roman chariots, columns, and expansive gardens were also invented…kind.of.cool.

Filipino Ginisang Toque – Recipe here.  This sautéed bean sprout dish is full of delicious vegetables and topped with the most perfect sauces.

Russian Tea Cakes – Recipe here.  These cookies are commonly eaten on the Trans-Siberian Railway as Russian passengers observe the beautiful scenery and drink tea as they cross over 6000 miles through Siberia.

Venezuelan Arepas – Recipe here.  I have always had a love for Latin food, and these Arepas from Venezuela reassured me as to why that love exists.  I am not over-exaggerating when I say they are absolutely delicious!

Kazakistan Lagman Shurpa – Recipe here.  The countries that lie between the Middle East and the Orient are absolutely fascinating.  Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Kazakistan all are situated along the ancient Silk Road tell and each have stories and flavors that will bring you back to the time of navigators, peasants, and castles…

Zambian Spiced Tilapia Stew – Recipe here.  Eastern Africa is a beautiful place, and Zambia is right in the middle of all the beauty.  From one of the largest and most incredible waterfalls in the world to the beautiful sounds of the Chewa language, you can’t go wrong with anything Zambian.

Eritrean Spiced Hembesha and Wat (Stew) – Recipe here.  Eritrea is surrounded by Ethiopia on one side and the Red Sea on the other, a place where African and Arabic cultures mix.  This mix results in a beautiful palate of flavors, colors, and textures throughout their culinary history.  This Hembesha says it all.
